Verbs divide into two-part
1 Finite verb
2.Non-finite verb
1. Finite verb –जो verb अपने subject के number और person क़े अनुसार change होता है,उसे finite verbकहते हैं | ex-
- he goes to market,
- we play cricket,
- you go to market,
2 Non-finite verb – जो verb अपने subject के number और person के अनुसार change नहीं होता है, उसे non-finite verb कहते हैं |
- A boy wants to eat mango.
- Boys want to eat mango.
- To eat- non-finite verb
Kinds of non-finite –there are three types.
1 Infinitive 2 Gerund 3 Participle
- Infinitive –Infinitive is the base form of the verb often followed by’ to ‘
As- to play
to want
to sing
Uses of infinitive –
1. As the subject of a verb – like
- To find fault is easy.
- To run is good for health.
- To advise is easy.
- To learn Chinese is not easy.
2. As an object of a verb –like
- I like to play football.
- I don’t like to read a book
- He wants to go there.
3.As the complement of the verb
- He gets fit to run.
- Her greatest pleasure to read.
4 Qualify the verb – like
- He called to see my brother.
- We eat to live.
- I came to see him.
5 Qualify the adjective to – like
- Eggs are good to eat.
- This medicine is pleasant to take.
- The boys are curious to learn.
- She is too ill to do any work.
6.Qualify the noun
- This is not the time to play.
- This house is to let.
- This is the book to read.
Participle-A participle is both a verb and an adjective.
- Present participle –v+ing
- Past participle –3rd form of verb( v3)
- Perfect participle –having +v3, Being + v3, Having been +v3
Ex-She is playing.
She is sitting in the car.
The books are kept on the table.
Broken glass lying on the floor.
A lost opportunity never returns.
He has gone.
We have done.
They had gone.
He had eaten food.
Having taken food, I went out of the room.
Having bathed, took food.
Having gone to the hotel, I ate food.
Being disturbed by him, couldn’t study
Having been disturbed by him couldn’t study.
Having been told, not to touch how dare you to touch my book.
Gerund –A gerund is that form of the verb which ends in – ing and has to force of a noun and a verb.
He fond of playing cricket.
The old lady was tired of walking.
Seeing is believing.
Uses of Gerund– 1.Subject of verb –
- Seeing is believing
- Running is good exercise
- Smoking is forbidden.
- Painting is forbidden on the wall.
2.Object of a verb-
- Stop crying.
- I like reading a book.
- I dislike working late.
3.object of preposition –
- I am tire of waiting.
- He is fond of singing.
- He was punished for telling a lie.
