INTRODUCTION
CAN, COULD, SHOULD, MUST, OUGHT TO, MAY, MIGHT, WILL, WOULD, NEED,
DARE(TO ), USED( TO)
Subject +modals+v1+ object +..….
Can – Ability/Capability (सकता हूँ )
Ex- I can do this work,
I can’t do this work.
Can you do this work?
Could –Past ability- (सकता था,सका,) Polite request
Ex – I could do this work, Could you do this work.
I could not speak English 3 months ago.
I could not complete my homework.
Could you pass me the salt?
Could you help me?
Should – express duty, moral (नैतिक ), चाहिए
Ex- You should help the poor.
You should not hate the poor.
You should not do this work.
We should obey the laws.
Children should obey their parents.
Must – express necessity -आवश्यक
You must go there.
We must get up early.
You must not go there.
Ought to– desirability /express probability
We ought to love our neighbors.
Prices ought to come down.
May –possibility /permission/wish -संभावना /आदेश /इच्छा
It may rain today.
It may be rain today.
May I come in sir?
May you live long.
Might –less possibility ( कम संभावना )
It might rain tomorrow.
He might come today.
Will – future (भविष्य में करने का इच्छा )
I will do this work.
Will you do this work?
Would –possibility/politeness -(विनम्रता)
I would like to help you.
Would you give me a glass of water?
Would you lend me your bike?
Need –necessity -जरुरत (with /without )
I need your help,
I don’t need your help.
Do you need his help?
Dare (to)– (हिम्मत )be brave enough to, challenge
How dare you to go there?
He dare not take such a step.
He does not dare to speak to me.
He doesn’t dare speak to me.
Used (to)-discontinue habit/ past habit- (किया करता था )
I used to play cricket, but I don’t.
I used to live there when I was a boy.
He used to run fast but don’t.
